How To Sleep After Hair Transplant Surgery





We all are aware that after every surgery sleep becomes a nightmare Postoperative after hair transplant the  scalp is soft . The transplanted area is not bandaged by the hair Transplant surgeon as it blocks the venous and lymphatic drainage which leads to inflammation in the scalp .Touching the new grafts will impact the recovery of the surgery  . It is very difficult to sleep after hair transplant surgery as it needs tactful handling. 


To prevent any type of infection it is better to use clean bed sheets and pillow cases. They should be washed in mild detergent  so that they don’t irritate your scalp during the healing process. The patient is advised to sleep with the head in an elevated position at 45  degrees. Some patients have different patterns of sleeping after surgery which can affect the transplanted area.

During the initial days the patient has to follow fixed sleeping patterns and postures. Sleeping upright   might cause inflammation it also disturbs your sleep. Sleeping on to your sides is recommended by the surgeon. The patient should follow some fixed pattern of sleep for 4-5 days enable the newly transplanted area to settle down on the scalp.



Arrange cushions around yourself to avoid bumping your head with the headboard  as little precaution taken can help the patient recover faster. If any patient is having long hair it would be advisable to put it aside to prevent the hair from tangles .While sleeping the pillow should be in a upright position which helps your hairs follicles and grafts from harmful friction .It also helps  in avoiding swelling on eyes, forehead and your cheeks. If inflammation occurs it is better to apply ice packs. A lot of rest after surgery will surely help the patient recover quickly It takes around a ten days for your grafts to set until the patient sleeps normally. The patient must make it a point to have a good night’s sleep and a proper posture for  3 -4 days after hair transplant surgery, as resting is very essential . 


When the surgeon is confident that the grafts are intact and safe, with the advise of the surgeon you can  sleep on your back. Avoid having ice cream, alcoholic drinks for at least a week after the surgery. After 10 -15 days the patient can start his normal activities like washing hair, sleeping habits.
